Tahona is one of those places you go when you’re looking for one of those dinner gathering you see in a movie. It’s full of action. It’s lively inside with warm lights and colorful artwork, and it has culture and vibe that often matches the energy of the dinner guests.
The food was great. I recommend the tacos. I was surprised there were limited choices for entrees, being that two were available. It’s a cocktail kind of restaurant with smaller plates and plentiful choices for handheld delectables.
The speak easy in the back requires a reservation and an answer to a tricky question. Prepare to have fun. What ever you do, don’t think they all ask you two truths and a lie. Also, watch out for the baby skulls on the wall, they’ll get ya.
This place is really cute, and has a cool dark vibe! We didn’t have reservations but they had a table available right outside in front of the restaurant which is connected to the old cemetery which we found to be a great experience! We had dinner right in front of Campo Santo! I did expect a bit more of a variety and flavor, something more from the food. It was good we tried the carnitas bao which was good, the birria Ramen was ok very small portions. The croquetas were basically spicy cheese balls. Overall it was good. It’s more about the experience in Old Town and eating by the cemetery with the views that makes it an enjoyable experience.
I rarely rate places on Google, but enjoyed this place so much I had to. The mezcal cocktails were delicious and unique, plus the space was cool and the service was great – and even more impressive considering how many tourist traps are nearby. Wish we could have tried everything on the menu!
We only had drinks and chips, so I can’t speak for the food.
Super grateful, we decided to celebrate our anniversary here! Not only do we have fantastic food, drinks, and service, but they were incredibly thoughtful as they knew we were celebrating a special occasion for the great night!
The food at Tahona is spectacular. Chef Adrian’s dishes feature Oaxacan influenced dishes that are perfectly paired with their mezcal and tequila collection. Hidden in the back is a speakeasy called Oculto 477.
