I absolutely love this place. The restaurant itself looks small from the outside, but has plenty of seating both indoor and “outdoor.” It never disappoints and you get great portions. Service is always wonderful as well. Only difficult part if trying to find parking at certain times, but if you’re lucky they have a few spots in the lot right in front of the restaurant. You can’t go wrong with anything you order here. Definitely give this place a try!
Food review:
Gyro & kabob plate: (5/5) this is my favorite. It’s super filling and enough for two meals. The meat is always so tender, juicy, and flavorful.
Lentil soup: (5/5) So good! It’s very simple, but delicious.
Gyro sandwich: (5/5) It’s pretty big, but very flavorful!
Baklavas: (5/5) OMG. So damn good. They’re flaky and delicious!
Walked in and atmosphere was nice was really excited to try the food. Got the house specialty chicken and it was crazy crazy dry I drank all my water very fast and kept trying to flag the waiter down but he never came. The entirety of the meal he never checked in on us one time and it was by no means busy. Dry chicken, good flavor, decent prices, nice atmosphere but service was non existent for us. Even had to walk up to the counter to pay the bill because we could not get him to come.
We come to Olympic Cafe all the time—it’s honestly one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. This place is such a hidden gem, and the sweetest family-owned spot. You can truly feel the love they put into their food and service—they’re always so friendly, personal, and take the time to chat with customers.
The food is incredible!!!! We usually get the platter, which comes with chicken, another choice of meat, rice pilaf, pita, and salad—such a huge portion that you can either split it or have leftovers (which is always a win). And their homemade cheesecake? To die for. My absolute favorite cheesecake ever. We probably could have split one, but my husband and I had to get our own—even if we had to be rolled home after, it was 100% worth it.
We came here on Valentine’s Day, and it was such a cute, romantic dinner. We had a cozy table by the window, candlelit with rose decorations—the whole setting felt like something out of a movie. This place just has so much charm and warmth.
Their wine selection—they always have unique options, which makes it fun to try something new. Great prices, great food, great people. Olympic Cafe is 10/10 all around, and we’ll definitely be back soon (probably this week, let’s be real).
Probably after what I’m going to say, you will get it. We came here since they opened and we keep coming back and also ordering delivery. Food is fresh, fast, flavorful. Great service and cozy casual ambiance. I love their lentil soup, tuna melt sandwich, gyro sandwich, baklava, carrot cake, salmon salad is fantastic.
Everything about this place is top-notch. We went and split a few things, and it was so good we went back a week later to try more things! The server (same server both times) remembered us and was able to provide friendly recommendations and gave good advice. The atmosphere is inspired without being kitschy, making me forget that I was next to the parking lot on busy University Ave.
Most importantly, the food is fantastic! The meats taste like they’ve been simmering, stewing for hours – so tender and rich. The veggies are fresh and flavorful and the hummus is smooth. Both times we left with baklava and plenty of leftovers.
