Great service, decent prices. The lasagna was super cheesy and the best thing we had. The minestrone was full of fresh veggies whose flavor permitted the whole soup. The marsala chicken and spaghetti sauce were both lacking flavor which is why I could not give this place a higher score. Overall great.
Brought some friends from Texas here to get some delicious Italian, and boy they did not disappoint. My friends found it delectable and the service was superb. We had this sweet and informative waitress from Folsom, petite, brunette. Very attentive and helpful. All around great experience. I usually come here for the cold subs for lunch so this visit was refreshing.
Legit tasted like the pasta and pizza we had in Rome! Straight to the point kind of cooking, no fancy toppings whatsoever, al dente pasta, on point flavors. Actually looks very simple but that’s what I really like about food esp the ones who do it right. They don’t rely on any other sauces or condiments to make their food taste authentic. Would go back!!!
There’s nothing more disappointing than a mediocre Italian sub.
But discovering an excellent Italian sub is always reason to celebrate! And Mona Lisa subs are just that.
Growing up in Chicago, I’ve had plenty of really good subs and I didn’t even know it until I moved to Seattle, a deli sandwich desert. Not exaggerating. In fact for all the great food, Seattle doesn’t have any great delis and doesn’t have great Mexican food.
But I digress.
What makes the Mona Lisa sub? Everything – the meat is high quality. I loved the mortadella. Then the bread, the sesame roll, the crunchy crust and the yeasty flavor, is sooo good.
And take note – a key ingredient is the oil & vinegar, important to making a great sub. But, with the lettuce and tomatoes, if left long enough the bread will eventually soak it all up and you’ll end up with a soggy mass.
So, in other words, it’s best to eat subs right away. Which we did, while sitting at the tables outside in the front.
Mona Lisa is now a must-go place in San Diego. I can’t wait to go back.
The restaurant is quite big and beautiful but I don’t think same with the food.
Even though the portions are big enough, the taste is really bad. the pasta is too much creamy and the pizza has zero taste. soup is okay. I do not recommend it.
