I recently visited Filippi’s Pizza Grotto in Little Italy, San Diego, and it was a delightful experience. The restaurant has a cozy, old-school Italian vibe, complete with a charming market at the entrance. The pizza was delicious, with a perfectly crispy crust, generous toppings, and rich, flavorful sauce. Portions were hearty and satisfying. Service was friendly and efficient despite the busy atmosphere. It’s a great spot for classic Italian comfort food in a warm, welcoming setting. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Little Italy!
Food: we ordered the Margherita pizza with meatballs added and Chicken Parmigiana with ravioli. Thin crust is always my top choice and I love the toasted flavor on the crust. Ravioli was a beef flavor and the ratio between the pasta and the fillings is perfect too 🤌
Service: Lisa is helpful and efficient.
Ambiance: the dining area is larger than you think from the appearance of the restaurant. It’s a combination of mart and dining area. They have all the Chianti bottles hung on the ceiling. It’s a cute restaurant to dine with anyone.
We had a pleasant experience at Filippi’s. The portion sizes in relation to the prices were great for the area and compared to anything else we tried in San Diego. We had the antipasto salad (small size) which was huge but perfect for two people. The special pizzas are good and super cheesy. I personally prefer pizzas to be a bit thinner than theirs, though. The best part was our server Irene, who gave us some suggestions on what to order – she’s the best!
Old school Italian restaurant. I had the veal parm and my wife got the Italian pepper beef sandwich at lunch. Finished with cannoli and spumoni. Great meal. Not cheap, but well worth it. The side of ravioli with my veal parm was amazing. Large stuffed with plenty of beef. Glad we stopped in. The deli is also amazing.
Pizza was great, stopped in for lunch with my two toddlers and we all loved it. One pizza can feed 2-3 average eaters for lunch. They are definitely generous on the cheese!
