Build Brothers did an outstanding job with the new roof at our new home in Clairemont! From the start, Kenny was very communicative and explained everything in detail. He pointed out issues with the existing solar panel installation and gave advice for when I would have to deal with the installer, and he was spot on with the issues. Kenny visited multiple times throughout the process to ensure work was performed up to his standards. Sergio and his crew were the ones doing the actual work for the new roof, and they were awesome as well. Sergio was also very willing to talk and explain things. He came back to the home after the installation was complete, when there was a miscommunication between his roofers and my plumbers, and within an hour or two he corrected the issue related to a vent that had been accidentally closed up. He had plenty of guys in his crew, so they were able to complete everything from start to finish in about 4 days. This included a new roof on the main home, on the attached patio, and also on a separate detached patio. Overall, I’m a really happy customer and would gladly recommend Build Brothers, and specifically Kenny and Sergio.
I would highly recommend Build Brothers if you are considering solar. These guys are a family-run business who really know how to navigate the planning and permitting process, and really care about their customers. Great communication throughout, and I am so stoked to now have my own power generation. Plus the Tesla Powerwall is cool, looks great too. Shout out to 2 guys, Jaime our foreman (smart and funny!), and John P, who met with me and the City inspector to get us to the finish line. Build Brothers actually delivered beyond my expectations.
I had a roof leak as well as some solar panel issues. I asked around and Build Brothers came highly recommended. Build brothers was able to knock out my roof repair immediately. They diagnosed my solar panels and found that there were 3 faulty optimizers as well as a connection issue with Solar Edge. My tech John Perez was able to fix the connection and replace the optimizer through the panel warranty. Initially, the optimizers were not registering so John diligently kept on Solar Edge until they finally updated my system and all is working well.
The owners Byron and Ian and my project manager Nick made me feel like family and kept me updated regularly.
The professionalism from Ian, Byron, Nick and John as well as the roofers whose names I cannot remember, sorry guys, is outstanding. I 100% recommend Build Brothers.
Our experience with Build Brothers for our roofing and solar project was seamless from start to finish. We purchased a total “fixer-upper” home and one of the biggest need was a roof. The previous tar and gravel roof was in desperate need of repair. Byron was great with going over replacement options and helped me through the decision making process. We decided to go with the TPO which looks great and is 1,000X better than the previous material. They took their time with peeling the excess weight of the old roof off, did a complete inspection, and repaired where necessary. There was minimal termite damage, and some water damage (home build in 1968) so that was expected. They replaced and repaired where necessary and Byron kept me updated the entire time. I was never surprised by a large supplemental bill which was a relief considering the overall scope of rehab of the home.
Whenever Byron was not around, Ruth in the office was always ready to answer any questions I had. She was instrumental in getting my expectations met. We were dealing with a complete home overhaul so not having to worry about the roofing progress helped us sleep at night! We also decided to install a 8.2 KW solar system which has been a lifesaver. We are almost completely self sufficient for electricity. In the coming months we will be 100% self sufficient as we are working with Build Brothers to get a Tesla Powerwall 3 for energy storage.
They are highly recommended because of their professionalism and workmanship. Definitely include them in your bidding process if you are considering a new roof and/or solar/battery.
In short, they cut corners, didn’t check for quality, and ended up having a different crew redo the entire roof because we had a third party inspect their work.
We hired Build Brothers to do a lift and lay on our tile roof. The initial inspector failed to tell us that the birdstop for our particular tile was no longer being made, and the roofers asked us if they could just do the roof without using any birdstop, which would have been against building code. The owner gave us a song and dance about ordering it custom, and when we agreed to the long manufacturing time they miraculously found a similarly shaped birdstop to do the job.
Once completed the roof looked awful, worse than the old one had looked. There were peices of metal sticking out and the tiles weren’t lined up straight. We decided to hire a third party roofing company to inspect it before making our final payment and it was the best decision we’ve ever made. The tiles hadn’t been spaced properly (to avoid buying addition tiles), flashing wasn’t installed properly, and there was even a portion of wood missing at the peak of the roof where tiles were just sitting, nailed to nothing.
We submitted the inspection report to Build Brothers and they had a new crew come in and redo the entire roof. It looked better but there was no way we could trust them at their word, so we hired the third party roofing inspector to check. It was good this time. If we need roof work done in the future we’ll call anyone besides these guys.
