We went to an amazing restaurant tonight just down from the Hotel. Wowsers!!
The owner Martin, and his two off-siders Martin and Oscar could not have been more welcoming. Martin #1 kept bringing out countless complementary plates to showcase their rustic Guardalajaran dishes and explaining how each dish was made as well as letting us know how to make Tequila.
We came home with a large takeaway bag of dishes for us to try tomorrow. Martin even wanted to invite us to Sunday breakfast which is apparently a special gathering. Unfortunately we will have left by then.
This is our spot for Birria de chivo tatemada. GOAT meat soup, they give a consome ( hot broth) on the side, the meat is cooked and serve on a separate plate its a little toasted. Plus (tatemada), home-made corn tortillas we had quesadillas on the side everything is so delicious you won’t regret it. If you go after 4pm they have a different menu we didn’t know but at this time they have Pozole, roll tacos , crunchy tacos and many other items definitely wants you to go for morning menu and come come back for the dinner menu. Fair prices. Family atmosphere, staff is very attentive and the place is very clean.
I ordered 1/2 beef and 1/2 goat birria stew. It was delicious. Can’t even say which one was better, try them both. The best birria and tortillas I ate here in SD.
Excellent service, great portions, and delicious food. My rating is based off the birria only as that’s all I’ve tried thus far. The Chivo birria stole the show as it brought me back to when I was a kid having it for the first time, seeing the adults pull the chivo out of a pit dug into the ground where it cooked overnight. The beef birria though, was a bit underwhelming. It was still good don’t get me wrong, just not as good as other places, I would definitely return to try other dishes and give the beef birria another try.
The food is very tasteful…I typically order a side of pata, and a taco de chicharrón with handmade tortilla.
My husband …as well as my son, they order Quesadilla Tonala. All food is fresh!!!!!
The service is great…although they are super busy.
