Yesterday Big Bully Turf transformed my backyard with their turf installation! It’s quite stunning, even more beautiful than I expected. The crew was friendly, organized, very detail oriented, and professional. They cleaned up afterwards so thoroughly, it was like they hadn’t been there (except for the gorgeous new lawn, of course!). The communication leading up to installation day was just right. I highly recommend this company!
I originally left a 2 star review highlighting issues I was having with our turf 1 month after installation. The issues were: Surface was uneven looking wavy, flooding on one side of the turf, stakes were placed in awkward/useless areas, the turf wasn’t extended correctly, and no quality check at the end. Since then communicating with the company has been very difficult to get a warranty claim. Two days after leaving my first review, they did have a Project Manager reach out to me who set up a time to stop by. He was at a loss for words seeing our turf and said it was one of the worst installations he’s seen. We came up with a game plan which included having a drain installed and then waiting to address the turf once my other landscaping was complete.
No one showed up the day we agreed upon to have the drain installed. The Project Manager apologized and gave another time frame for the installer to come out the next day. He was late to that time frame by 1 hr and also late the next morning when he came back to complete the drain. Now we are in the process of addressing the rest of the turf.
This whole process has been frustrating. Trying to get a hold of the company has been difficult and communication from their side has been sporadic. Calling them you are sent to an operator service who takes your message and sends it to the team to call you back. I agreed to remove my first review as a sign of good faith and things would be resolved. I am not confident they will be at this point so I am adding another review. Once the re-installation is complete and we are satisfied, I will remove/update this post. If not, I will add more details including text messages with time stamps showing the lack of communication.
Big Bully Review
We are pleased with the turf; it seems to be a high-quality product. However, I must express my dissatisfaction with the communication and the lack of follow-up after the project was completed. As a business owner in real estate, building strong relationships and maintaining good communication are vital to my success.
While the job was done well and completed on time, the lack of communication during the process was concerning. We often found workers sitting around on their phones for extended periods, and it wasn’t until we took the initiative and called Big Bully and inquired that we understood the situation.
Alex, one of the project managers (not a sales rep), was fantastic. He took the time to review our project, made custom adjustments to meet our needs, and provided a clear explanation of the process after my initial call to address our confusion. We give Alex a well-deserved 5 stars -Thanks Alex!
When the project wrapped up, there was no farewell, follow up, or even an offer for a final walkthrough to ensure everything met our expectations from our sales rep or the company.
It’s disappointing to think that after spending thousands, we received no follow-up for feedback or acknowledgment.
Instead, it feels like they moved on to the next project immediately. Interestingly, the final bill arrived promptly.
Overall, while the product is great, most of the service experience fell flat…and is is why we gave them a 3 Star = just OK. The problem with OK, is it gets the job done, but only “great” gets 5 stars – and that comes from feeling it was a relational transaction, where our business was appreciated, not a transactional one.
I would definitely recommend big bully turf to anyone! The process was seamless once we decided to go with them even though I waited months to make a decision. They hopped right on it and ordered the turf and it was installed ASAP. The installation team was amazing their attention to detail was impeccable. They were so patient with me when I had questions and I put it in Google translate. I truly appreciated that. They were very sweet and respectful. The turf is top-notch!
The only reason we chose Big Bully Turf was because of the unique product they offered compared to other companies. I have to give credit to our sales consultant, Steven—he did an excellent job selling us on the turf. He addressed our concerns about our running bamboo, assuring us they would dig two feet down and install a barrier to prevent the bamboo from lifting the grass. We were excited and felt confident in what was promised, so we moved forward with the project after going over the breakdown, discounts, and costs.
However, everything changed once the work began. The crew, though hardworking, was ill-prepared and did not have the correct information. It became clear that Steven failed to communicate key details. In a text, Steven explained that due to the discounts we received, there was no room to cover an additional 75 feet of work—unless we paid another $800. This was never disclosed upfront, and it left us feeling blindsided.
To make matters worse, the workmanship was subpar. The edges are poorly done, uneven, and far from professional. The finished product looks nothing like what was promised—it’s a clear case of poor execution. We were so excited to support a woman-owned business, but unfortunately, Big Bully Turf completely fell short of our expectations.
I strongly recommend doing thorough research before choosing a turf company. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand instead of falling for a well-crafted sales pitch. Based on our experience, the combination of miscommunication, hidden costs, and poor workmanship has led us to the unfortunate conclusion that we cannot recommend Big Bully Turf.
