Barely Mash in San Diego completely lived up to the hype we saw on Chopped from Food Network! We went there for lunch and ordered the fish and chips and the burger. Both dishes were exceptional, but the fish and chips really stood out. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside while tender and flaky on the inside, and the fries were golden and seasoned just right. What really surprised us was the pickle slaw served with it—it added such a fresh, tangy twist to the dish and elevated the entire meal. Even their homemade ketchup was something special, with a flavor that perfectly complemented the fries.
The burger was equally impressive, with juicy, flavorful meat and fresh toppings that made every bite satisfying. The menu offers some unique spins on classic dishes, so definitely ask questions if you have any dietary preferences or if you’re not sure about a certain flavor combination. But trust me, the twists are worth it!
Our experience was made even better by the amazing service. Our server, Aaron, was incredibly kind, warm, and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. He took time to explain the menu and offer great recommendations. The hostess was also super friendly and had a great attitude, which set a positive tone for the entire meal.
Barely Mash is more than just a lunch spot—it’s a place where you can enjoy excellent food with creative twists and exceptional service. If you’re in San Diego and want to try something unique, this place is a must-visit!
This place does NOT disappoint! The environment was lovely, clean and huge! Service was great and the food, MY GOD the food was delicious and the portions are gigantic. A ton of wonderful flavors put together.
Was drawn to this place because of the wide selection of beer on tap and sports screens. Had the seared Tuna salad (half order was more than enough) and really enjoyed this healthy and substantial meal. I ended up having a Chimay beet from the bottle as I’m a Belgian fan. The servers were very friendly and I think they tagged team with at least 4 different people taking care of me. I rated the atmosphere as a 4 as it was load and chaotic, but many love this vibe.
Fun place with lots of TVs for football. Can get loud very early. Coffee bar is nice. Hashes are awesome and easily feed two people. Biscuits with jam are some of the best we ever had
We came here for a quick bite during Comic Con. Though they were busy, the service was great and friendly. We shared the appetizer shrimp and pesto flatbread. The shrimp were delicious and you got more than I expected. The flatbread was a good size but didn’t have as much flavor as I expected it to have. Still good but could have used a bit more flavor that came with the chicken that was on top.
