I’m very confused about our experience. I see all the five star reviews and I’m in shock. I called the morning of the appointment to get the time. She said there was no appointments that day. Well, I knew I had received a text but I wasnt able to find it. Finally after being on the phone with her for a few minutes I found my text. There it was with the date and time. When I told her she seemed surprised and then she said okay, we will see you later today. I’m not sure if this was the receptionist and the person who answered the phone was the same person. To start of with the receptionist wasn’t very welcoming and not very friendly. As we walked in to an empty office she slid open the window and handed us two masks. She then proceeds to close the window and sit. Nothing was said she just handed us the masks. When she closed the window and sat back down in her chair I spoke up and said ” Hi, my son has an appointment”. She got back up and opened the window asked for our information and gave us paper work to fill out. She just seemed very cold and frustrated. After a few minutes of waiting she said the Doctor is seeing someone it will be a few more minutes. I thanked her and said okay. Dr. Bakst opened the door to the waiting room and peeked out. He then closed it. After a few more minutes he came back and called us. He looked at us and sat down. Never introduced him self. He asked a few questions about my sons health history. Took some notes and proceeded with some office testing, walking reflexes, and strength. He is not a man of many words. Didn’t say much. I asked him about the testing he was doing and what where his findings. Minimal words to explain the results. He then made a comment, ” You should already know” how his strength is. He then said “that he made some notes and we are done” Done? I asked. What about his medicine, what about a follow up? He then asked when did I want to go back? I looked at him and thought to myself. You are the doctor, tell me when to come back. I said okay in a year, we will call you if we need refills. His answer was the refills are good for a year. I walked out confused over the whole visit. I walked out first, my son followed and then the doctor. I said to my son, this visit was weird! Dr. Bakst followed to the front desk. The receptionist asked do you have any questions, everything went well? I wanted to be honest and tell her but she was part of this experience. Before I could say anything my words of confusion started. I said, this appointment was very odd. Normally the doctor tells me when to come back. The doctor was there on her side, he then asked me if I wanted to go back in 6 months or a year it was up to me. Uhhhmmm, I want you the doctor to tell me what is better for my sons health. I think they both saw my face of disbelief. As soon as we walked out my son’s made a comment. He said well this was weird and uncomfortable. I walked out and called my husband with away and I told him my experience. he asked where was this doctor located. I said in La Jolla !!! This is my sons transition appointment, he went from all his doctors being at childrens to adult doctors. This was his last new doctor, I can say that we are not coming back. Horrible first time experience.

Love Dr. Bakst! Dry sense of humor…friendly…easy to talk to. I’ve been to st least 5 neurologists over the last several years, and Dr. Bakst is easily my favorite…BY FAR.
