I loved their curry pan. Absolutely loved it. We got it in the morning – likely when it was fresh and it was just delicious. Soft and crispy and the filling was perfect. I wasn’t a huge fan of the custard bun. The bread itself was good but I did not enjoy the custard filling. We also really enjoyed their melon float and the egg sando. The crust was a little chewy but the egg salad itself was delicious and the cucumber in it was refreshing – I wish there had been more of it. Really great bakery, very good service and is a must visit
This is definitely a bakery I frequent regularly to enjoy baked goods in the mornings! The savory items really carry this place for me along with their matcha based drinks. I wish I could give this place a 5* review, but there are just 2 things that ruin it for me. The first thing is if you do not arrive 10 minutes prior to opening, expect to be standing in a line that wraps outside the door. Not to mention never being able to find a table. Second would be the quality of some of the pastries (personal opinion). To explain myself, the baked goods are mass produced ahead of time and some will sit for extended periods of time make the texture stale, some items are over cooked/burnt and still sold off, and some items just fall short like the custard recipe used here. Still, I would recommend coming to enjoy a savory item from here as well as a drink if you are in the area!
I absolutely loved the green tea cream-filled croissant! It was light and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness, making it a delightful treat. Trying the curry bun for the first time— flaky, crunchy outside and soft, savory flavor inside, what a great surprise! I had it for breakfast but I think it would be better suited for lunch or an afternoon snack.
My favorite, though, has to be the Japanese custard pudding! It’s rich, creamy, and has a perfectly smooth silky texture. Overall, each pastry offers a unique Japanese touch and was a satisfying experience, took me right back to my stay in Nagoya. I wish we had this in Toronto!
My kid wanted to try the Sandos while visiting San Diego. So we ordered and egg one which it was good but she is not fan of the horse radish so we have half Sandi for tomorrows breakfast. We shared a chicken and cabbage tasty, some fries with truffle shavings and she ordered the matcha lemonade we ordered the Yerbamatte, looking forward to the last one even though I was wondering how would they make it cold, but went with it. Matcha to powdery, yerbamatte, no flavor, no matte no Yerba, sorry, but that was not a yerbamatte, might have been some sort of tea, but tasted like plan water with a slight tint on greenish/yellowish color.
The staff very friendly let us know about the sweets so we are returning for the pastries part tomorrow.
A fun thing we discovered, the place is the gate to a speakeasy and to an omakase both in very secretive doors, it was very interesting to see this concept within the restaurant, now we want to
Also get tho those places. Per one of the staff the omakase can run about $250 Dlls and it’s booked about a month in advance. The speakeasy invitation code given to the cashier of ASA, and it will open the secret door disguised as a wall.
A really good place. Been wanting to try it for a while, but we don’t live in the area. Came here when by the airport. It definitely lives up to the hype. Everything we got was delicious. The savory and sweet things were amazing. Fresh and decadent. Highly recommended.
